NOTE: IMPORTANT CORRECTION TO PREVIOUS ALS MEMBER UPDATE!

On August 20, 2001, the American Lithotripsy Society issued a Member Update entitled, "New Medicare Reimbursement Issues". In that Update, we incorrectly stated that TUMT had received a transitional pass-thru reimbursement rate.

Since the issuance of this release, we have been informed by Urologix that the company had applied to CMS [formerly HCFA] to obtain a transitional pass-thru for its catheter [either Targis or Prostatron] but was denied. Hence, when TUMT is performed in the hospital outpatient setting, the hospital currently receives a Medicare facility fee in the amount of $1,917. This amount is for the APC 980 under the OPPS and is the national average which is subject to geographical adjustment.

Further, the proposed 2002 Medicare rate recently published by CMS [CMS-1159-P] provides for a change to APC 982 for TUMT at a proposed rate of $2,647, again subject to geographical adjustment. Please note, however, that the proposed rule from CMS is subject to a 60-day public comment period.

Urologix has further detailed these reimbursement changes on documents available at the company's website, www.urologix.com.

We regret this error. We recommend that you append this correction notice to the original copy of the August 20th Member Update for future reference. Thank you.
